Deciding Factors

Vivina & me Sydney CBDIsa 30:21. You shall hear a word behind you saying, ‘this is the way, walk in it’

I have been asked what lead me to make the decision of where to go. Here are some of the events that were a guiding force in my direction making.

Having set my sights on visiting a friend in South Africa I thought I would take the opportunity to catch up with friends in other African countries. Not long after I made this decision I received a call from Gayle at HOPE radio station asking if I would like to advertise with them this year. When I explained that I was hoping to sell the business and volunteer abroad, our conversation changed direction. Gayle mentioned there was a woman in Sydney from Uganda who would be speaking on ‘Open House,’ one of HOPE’s radio programs. She suggested I contact, Mrs Vivian Kityo, as my skills and the Wakisa Ministries would be a good fit. I contacted World Share who arranged for us to meet up when Vivian was in the city to see the sights of Sydney. As we wondered around the botanical gardens we shared our hopes and plans for the future and if there was something I could do to help the girls at Wakisa. Vivian thought I could assist the expectant women prepare for the birth as well as help them understand the needs of their babies when they returned home. I must admit I could see myself travelling around the countryside supporting these new mothers and their babies. I love my profession and can see my experiences as a mothercraft nurse of over 30 yrs has well equipped me with skills and talents to prepare me for something like this.

Since our meeting I have kept in touch with Gregory Bacon from World Share and in my packing up have donated the surplus fabric, baby wraps and other items which can be used at the Wakisa home. I am really looking forward to visiting there after my trip to Asia. Please pray with me for the Lords leading and guidance regarding this opportunity.

Update on my Sydney departure… yes, it’s still a departure as I’m STILL in Sydney packing! I didn’t realise how long it would take me. No one came forward to take over the flat so I’ve had to pack it all up, giving away a stack of things to friends, packing off 13 boxes to Perth (to the horror of my mother … and I still have some more to pack and send!). I gave most of my things to Tamba a friend from Church who is sending a shipping crate back to his home in Serra Leone. Tamba has started a outreach there called ‘Child Survival & Development Links’. The rest of my things will be going to the Salvos!

Do I hear you asking did I sell the business?  I lowered the price as the buyer was hesitant.  This second offer was accepted and we are now working on the legal paper work.  Please continue to pray the the transaction goes smoothly.  I will update you on the progress in the next post.

Thank you to all those who have encouraged, supported and prayed for me over this challenging time.  I hope you have enjoyed the new pages I have added to this blog and please let me know if there is anything you would like to read about in the future.  I have enjoyed and been encouraged by comments you have posted. Thanks.

Please not I have updated the P & P page and will do so after posting every new blog.
